Pediatric Imaging
Image Gently
Many children will never need medical imaging. Some may require an X-ray for a broken bone, but a few will require more extensive imaging.
For those few, there is no question that medical imaging can help save the lives of sick children, but it is also important for parents and physicians to be mindful of the radiation dose kids receive.
To facilitate parental decisions, the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center is participating in the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging's Image Gently campaign.
The campaign is designed to inform parents and physicians about the risks and benefits of medical imaging in children, and to help imaging facilities make the radiation dose "as low as reasonably achievable."
At the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center, we have a fellowship-trained pediatric radiologist on staff as well as medical physicists who supervise imaging protocols and work to ensure that the lowest possible dose of radiation is used to effectively image our young patients.
Parents interested in more information about the Image Gently campaign can visit the campaign's website.
