Appointments Now Available for Medical Center’s Free Pediatric Pop-Up

WHAT

Cedars-Sinai Community Health Improvement  is offering free COVID-19 vaccines for infants and young children on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the medical center in Los Angeles.

Children 6 months to 4 years old will receive the Pfizer 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine. Children 5-11 years old will receive the Pfizer updated COVID-19 vaccine.

WHO

Children 6 months to 11 years old who do not currently have COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms are eligible for these shots. Other requirements:

  • Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • If your child has already received a vaccine, please bring their vaccine card.

WHY

There are many important reasons children should be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Priya Soni, MD, Cedars-Sinai pediatric infectious disease specialist. “While many children have milder infections than adults, some children develop severe lung infections from COVID-19 that require hospitalization,” she said.

Children also can develop bacterial pneumonia after recovering from COVID-19. Another complication is multisystem inflammatory system in children (MIS-C), which requires care in an intensive care unit (ICU).

Additionally, vaccinating your child helps protect the entire family, including grandparents, Soni said. Vaccines are critical in preventing transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19, especially during upcoming holiday gatherings, she said.
