Cedars-Sinai Kicks Off Donate Life Month with Flag-Raising
Journalists Invited to Cover April 1 Ceremony Led by Organ Transplant Recipients
WHAT
Cedars-Sinai is starting Donate Life Month with a flag-raising ceremony. On April 1, two organ transplant recipients, healthcare professionals from Cedar-Sinai's Comprehensive Transplant Center and representatives from OneLegacy, the nation’s largest organ procurement organization, will participate in the ceremony. The Donate Life flag will fly at the medical center throughout April.
WHO
Among the participants is David O’Neil, who received a liver transplant in 2019. Less than a year later, O’Neil was back at work full-time and playing in a competitive soccer league. Today, O’Neil volunteers at Cedars-Sinai with the liver transplant support group to help new patients and their families. "Receiving a new liver not only saved my life but also gave me a renewed sense of purpose, providing perspective on what truly matters and the importance of being intentional with each day,” O’Neil said.
Another speaker, Richard Udin, 74, is marking the one-year anniversary of his kidney transplant. “Before my transplant, I was tied to a dialysis machine, had to cancel a vacation and was feeling like life was very narrow,” Udin said. “Now I feel like I’ve been given my life back.”
Other speakers include leaders from Cedars-Sinai’s Comprehensive Transplant Center and OneLegacy.
