Training for Tomorrow: Fairfax High School Students Graduate From Cedars-Sinai’s Youth Employment and Development Program
WHAT
The Cedars-Sinai Youth Employment and Development (YED) program is celebrating the commencement ceremony of its most recent class by hiring some of the program’s graduates.
At the June 13 graduation, Cedars-Sinai will announce that some members of the class have been selected for the medical center’s new educational mentorship that includes paid, part-time employment throughout their college years. The new program, called the Educational Mentorship for Empowering Resilient Growth and Excellence in Healthcare (EMERGE), is designed to help students navigate a pathway to a career in healthcare.
“We are so proud of the entire 2024 YED class,” said Nicole Mitchell, chief diversity and inclusion officer at Cedars-Sinai. “Some students will attend college out of state, some in state, but all are heading to college with insights and exposure to healthcare opportunities. For our inaugural EMERGE cohort, we are honored to continue to support them through their college journey and watch them grow.”

Additional Information
The YED program is a collaboration with Fairfax High School in Los Angeles that engages 11th and 12th grade students through a combination of school-based education, hands-on workplace learning, and mentoring. Each year, participating students gain access to paid, part-time jobs at Cedars-Sinai, are guided by professional mentors, and earn credits toward their high school graduation. Since its inception, the program has enrolled more than 1,000 students, with many transitioning to full-time employment at Cedars-Sinai.
The EMERGE program supports YED graduates on their college journeys, preparing them for healthcare leadership roles. Slated to launch in fall 2024, EMERGE selects YED graduates from its most recent class and provides them with Cedars-Sinai mentors and part-time employment.
