Cedars-Sinai Hosts Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit
Journalists Invited to Cover Immersive Mentorship Event Held to Inspire Middle and High School Students
WHAT
Cedars-Sinai is collaborating with the nonprofit organization Black Men in White Coats to provide an immersive day of mentorship for more than 1,000 middle and high school students. The Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit will feature hands-on activities as well as networking opportunities—all to inspire students to pursue careers in medicine.
“As we continue to address the gaps in access and visibility across the healthcare workforce, it’s essential to create experiences where students can explore what’s possible,” said Nicole Mitchell, a Cedars-Sinai executive leader responsible for the event. “When young people are able to engage directly—see it, feel it, connect with professionals who share their lived experiences—it shapes what they believe is attainable. For me, it’s all about opening doors early and planting the seed of possibility for the next generation of healthcare heroes.”
During the daylong session at the Los Angeles Convention Center, participants will explore various aspects of clinical care and medical research through interactive demonstrations in respiratory therapy, laparoscopic surgery, artificial intelligence (AI), imaging, trauma care and more.
Students will also have the opportunity to engage with physicians, nurses, educators and researchers from diverse specialties such as internal medicine, surgical oncology, anesthesiology and oncology.
