Michael Buchman Named Chief Investment Officer of Cedars-Sinai
Former Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Investment Leader Will Oversee Cedars-Sinai’s $8 Billion Investment Portfolio
Michael Buchman, JD, MBA, has been named chief investment officer of Cedars-Sinai, overseeing an $8 billion investment portfolio to support the institution’s mission of advancing the health of the community.
Buchman joins Cedars-Sinai from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, where he spent 18 years in a variety of investment roles, including leadership positions for the last decade. He
served since 2021 as vice president and chief investment officer managing the foundation’s $8.3 billion investment portfolio.
At the Hilton foundation, he reported directly to the CEO and worked closely with the investment committee and board of directors to successfully craft investment strategy, including asset allocation, risk management, manager selection and operations.
“I am excited to join Cedars-Sinai and look forward to continue stewarding and growing its investment portfolio in service of its mission,” Buchman said. “Investing Cedars-Sinai’s assets by partnering with outstanding investment managers will generate returns that enable us to enhance health and healthcare in Los Angeles and beyond.”
In his new role, Buchman will oversee Cedars-Sinai’s investment strategy, objectives and policies as established by the board of director’s investment committee, and he will advise on investment portfolio risk and exposure while further developing the investment team.
Earlier in his career, Buchman held positions in finance, real estate and law at Citigroup Global Investment Bank and real estate asset-management firm Broadway Partners. He also worked at the law firms Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.
Buchman earned his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and an MBA and bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
“Michael is the ideal leader to strategically grow our investment portfolio and enable us to better serve all those who need Cedars-Sinai,” said David Wrigley, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Cedars-Sinai Health System.
For Buchman, joining Cedars-Sinai on Dec. 1 marks a homecoming of sorts. He was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, as were each of his three children.
“As a native Angeleno, I have seen firsthand the impact Cedars-Sinai has across the city,” he said. “I am thrilled to play my part in ensuring a vibrant Cedars-Sinai for years to come.
