Becker’s Healthcare Podcast: Dr. Lori Morgan, President & CEO at Huntington Health
“Becker’s Healthcare Podcast” recently interviewed Lori Morgan, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Huntington Health, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, about her career, leadership advice and trends in healthcare.
Morgan, a trauma surgeon who later became a healthcare executive, told the podcast’s host Scott Becker that she is focused on employee safety, wellness programs and benefits for physicians and staff, addressing staffing challenges, and making sure all patients have access to healthcare.
“I think healthcare is really more complex and challenging than ever before, which … brings a lot of excitement and opportunity,” Morgan told Becker.
She urged emerging leaders to be well-versed in healthcare policy and how to help influence it, as well as to be adaptable in learning new skills or taking on new projects.
“I also think it’s really important to get involved with local and national leadership groups in your field; it’s a great networking opportunity,” she told Becker. “But more importantly … you will find great leaders there that you can model after and learn from.”
Morgan also addressed healthcare trends and challenges.
“You know, I think what everyone is well-agreed on at this point is that if you are going to sit down and design the perfect system for healthcare, it would not be what we have today,” she told Becker. “And … the concept of continuing to do more, with less, and a very labor-intensive, technology-intensive, highly regulated industry is probably not a realistic one. I think … we need all of those young, bright minds from those … new leaders to help us figure it out.”
