With Successful Completion of Discovering for Life Fundraising Campaign

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Invests $357 Million to Advance Research

Los Angeles - Nov. 1, 2010 - Thanks to its community of dedicated donors, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ended a five-year fundraising campaign with $357 million to invest in innovative research in specialty areas ranging from cancer to cardiac care, women’s health to pediatrics, pulmonary care to surgery and transplantation, and neuroscience to regenerative medicine.

“Reaching the campaign goal took the commitment of the entire community, which was particularly inspiring given the worst recession in generations,” said Lawrence B. Platt, chairman of “Discovering for Life: The Campaign for Cedars-Sinai.” the most successful campaign in the medical center’s history. “We are deeply grateful to our long-term contributors; first-time donors; grateful patients from Los Angeles, the nation, and around the world; physicians; and many others who are part of our extended Cedars-Sinai family.”

Arthur J. Ochoa, Cedars-Sinai Sr. VP for Community Relations and Development added, “A great team of doctors, nurses and development professionals came together to help make this campaign a success. Discovering for Life was a phenomenal partnership between our donors and the people of Cedars-Sinai.”

Launched in February 2005, the campaign exceeded its $350 million goal and has led to the establishment of two institutes, four centers, 11 endowed funds, and 20 endowed chairs. By furthering the work and recognition of internationally known scientists conducting wide-ranging biomedical research at Cedars-Sinai, these contributions will lead to new therapies, technologies and cures; and enhance the medical center’s well-established training programs for physicians and scientists. Cedars-Sinai, a non-profit organization, is recognized as one of the nation’s top-tier non-university academic medical centers.

The campaign also enhanced the hospital’s community benefit programs to meet the health needs of vulnerable, underserved populations in LA County.

“Over the past 10 years, we have seen a metamorphosis in the academic stature, character and culture of Cedars-Sinai,” said Thomas M. Priselac, Cedars-Sinai’s president and CEO. “Our institution has grown from an outstanding community hospital to an outstanding community-based academic medical center of national standing. This phenomenal growth was made possible by the visionary support of our community.”
