The Jennifer Hudson Show: ‘We Brought the Spirit Tunnel to Nurses for Nurses Week!’
The Jennifer Hudson Show recently visited Cedars-Sinai to celebrate National Nurses Week with a surprise that brought smiles and cheers to dozens of nurses.
In a segment honoring nurses, the show brought its signature “Spirit Tunnel” to the medical center, surprising Cedars-Sinai nurses as they started and ended their shifts. Jennifer Hudson and staff from her show chanted and cheered on the nurses, who danced and celebrated—some becoming emotional as Hudson thanked them for their commitment to patient care.
Cedars-Sinai leaders like David Marshall, JD, DNP, RN, senior vice president, chief nursing executive and chair of the Department of Nursing, credited the nurses for the essential role nurses play in healing patients.
“Since Cedars-Sinai was founded, its mantra has been ‘to be a blessing,’ and I think every single nurse that works at Cedars-Sinai takes that to heart,” Marshall said.
Nurses of all experience levels—from recent graduates to 45-year veterans—participated in the celebration. Many shared personal reflections on their dedication to the profession and what it means to be recognized for their compassionate work.
“We really are a safe space, and a sense of comfort for these patients,” said Melissa Rue, RN, who has been a nurse for 15 years and comes from a family of nurses—all of whom have worked at Cedars-Sinai.
The segment captured the spirit of National Nurses Week, honoring the resilience, hard work and heroism of these critical healthcare workers and the impact they have on the lives of patients and families. To further support the nurses, Hudson announced that healthcare apparel-maker FIGS donated $20,000 to the Cedars-Sinai Department of Nursing to help fund nurse wellbeing programs.
