Becker's Healthcare Podcast: Dr. Peter L. Slavin, CEO of Cedars-Sinai, and David Kaplan, Chair of the Board
Becker's Healthcare Podcast recently interviewed Peter L. Slavin, MD, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, and David Kaplan, chair of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center board of directors, about Kaplan’s $10 million gift to establish the David and Meredith Kaplan Presidential Chair.
Kaplan told Becker's Healthcare Podcast host Laura Dyrda that the gift is intended to enhance Cedars-Sinai’s four core pillars—education, research, innovation and quality care—while helping to mitigate any financial challenges the institution might experience. Having served on Cedars-Sinai's board of directors for a dozen years, Kaplan said he has observed how the organization improves the lives of patients in the local community and around the world.
“It's an honor to be able to attach our names and our funds to positions of criticality to the mission because the service that is being provided here at Cedars-Sinai cannot happen without world-class talent,” Kaplan said.
The gift will help support Cedars-Sinai as it continues to expand to meet the needs of the community. Since its founding, Cedars-Sinai has grown from a community hospital to an internationally ranked academic medical center. Slavin said he is looking forward to seeing how advances in stem cell therapy, immunotherapy, artificial intelligence and other specialized areas will shape patient care.
“What makes me very excited are all the incredible innovations going on, both in the biological sciences as well as information technology, and their ability to transform healthcare.”
