Mental health is an important part of overall health. Our psychiatry team supports the mental wellbeing of hospitalized patients as well as patients receiving care in other specialties including cancer, transplant and primary care, as they work toward full recovery and lasting health.

How We Can Help Patients in the Hospital

While you're admitted to Cedars‑Sinai, we work with your doctor and caregivers to create a treatment plan for you. We offer key services throughout the medical center, such as:

  • Educating you about our assessment and your treatment options
  • Suggesting additional tests to determine a diagnosis
  • Identifying your strengths and supporting them to help you cope
  • Offering brief therapy, coping strategies and stress management techniques
  • Stopping medications that are not helpful and recommending medicines that may reduce symptoms
  • Offering support to your family
  • Providing referrals to doctors or treatment programs for ongoing support

Addiction Psychiatry Program

The Addiction Psychiatry Consultation Program provides evidence‑based, compassionate care for people with substance-use disorders and related problems who are currently hospitalized for medical reasons. Our program brings together the best available assessment tools and treatments, ranging from psychotherapy to medication.

Our experts lead research to understand and discover treatments for substance use disorders. We work closely with community providers and programs to link our patients to a continuum of addiction treatment services after they leave the hospital.
