These Hips Don’t Lie: Orthopaedic Surgeon, Paleontologist Unveil Mystery of Saber-Toothed Cats
WHAT:
Orthopaedic surgeon Robert Klapper, MD, joined by paleontologist Mairsin Balisi, PhD, will lead a special discussion about the mysteries of saber-toothed cats and their social structures, based on collaborative research between the La Brea Tar Pits Museum and Cedars-Sinai.
Klapper’s and Balisi’s unique talk, “These Hips Don't Lie,” and its companion museum display, sheds light on the saber-toothed cats' lifestyles and offer a glimpse into their interactions, community dynamics and why they became extinct. Klapper and Balisi have collaborated on examining fossils and bones—including the use of modern medical imaging techniques--to solve some of the mysteries surrounding saber-toothed cats’ history.
