PIMCO Founder Bill Gross and Wife, Sue, Make Transformational Gift to Cedars-Sinai's Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion

Orange County–based philanthropists give $20 million toward the new Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion to name the Sue and Bill Gross Surgery and Procedure Center

Los Angeles - Nov. 14, 2012 – Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has named the new surgical and interventional center in its soon-to-open Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion in honor of Bill and Sue Gross, philanthropists and donors of a $20 million gift toward the building that will bring together clinicians and researchers under one roof to accelerate biomedical discoveries and to speed those advances into clinical care.

“We wanted to make a gift to support a worthy Los Angeles–based healthcare institution. Cedars-Sinai’s mission resonated with us,” said Sue Gross, Gross Family Foundation president. “We, too, share Cedars-Sinai’s passion for quality patient care, research, teaching, education and service to the community. The new Pavilion will be a place that harmonizes all of those things, and we wanted to be a part of it.”

The Sue and Bill Gross Surgery and Procedure Center will be an integral part of the 11-story, 820,000-square-foot Pavilion, which will serve an estimated 400 patients per day after its summer 2013 opening. The Pavilion will be the new home of the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, neurosciences and other departments. It will feature state-of-the-art research laboratories, along with five floors of parking, a café, a pharmacy and an imaging center.

The entire fifth floor of the Pavilion will be dedicated to the 50,000-square-foot Sue and Bill Gross Surgery and Procedure Center, providing convenient outpatient surgical and intervention procedures. The center will connect to the Medical Center via the Sue and Bill Gross Skywalk bridge dedicated for the transport of patients smoothly.

“While representing a significant leap forward, the Pavilion will carry on a tradition that has long defined Cedars-Sinai: our leadership in meeting the community’s health needs and providing the best quality patient care,” said Thomas M. Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health System.

“This visionary gift from Sue and Bill Gross demonstrates forward-thinking philanthropy. By supporting the new Pavilion, the Gross family is helping to usher in a truly new era of patient care,” said Arthur J. Ochoa, Esq., senior vice president for Community Relations and Development.
