MEDIA ADVISORY: As Summer Heats Up, So Does Need For Blood

On World Blood Donor Day June 14, Cedars-Sinai Holds Blood Drive at The Original Farmers Market

WHAT:

Cedars-Sinai is hosting a two-day blood drive June 14 and 15 at the Original Farmer’s Market in observance of World Blood Donor Day on June 14. Armando Romero, associate director of Transfusion Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, will be available in person or via Zoom during the drive to explain the donation process and discuss the ongoing need for blood donations. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact Sarah Lichtman by phone at (540) 834-7954 or by email at Sarah.Lichtman@cshs.org

WHY:

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Blood products are used to treat patients who experience physical trauma, need complex surgeries or are undergoing treatments for cancer. Historically, blood donations slow during the summer months, while demand increases. Blood products have short shelf lives, according to Romero, so donations are continually needed to meet the needs of a Level I trauma center like Cedars-Sinai.
