LA Clippers to Visit Cedars-Sinai to Help Give Students Simulated Surgical and Other Medical Experiences

Twenty-two local junior high and high school students will take part in a simulated surgery and other medical procedures at the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Guild Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills. The students, who are part of the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation’s Mentorship Assist Zone program, will have an opportunity to enter a fully equipped operating room and take part in a simulated surgery with life-like mannequins, as well as work with the latest robotic surgical tools used for airway procedures, endoscopies and other treatments. They will be joined by Clippers forward Moussa Diabate.

Clippers forward-center Daniel Theis will also be visiting with patients in the cancer infusion center and pediatric patients with Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s.

WHY

Cedars-Sinai partners with local organizations through its Community Benefit program to support youth mentorship in underserved communities. The goal of these mentorship experiences is for students to learn more about the diverse career fields connected to healthcare and be inspired by our mentors. Cedars-Sinai is the official health partner of the Clippers.

ABOUT

The Women’s Guild Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills is used by an average of 2,000 healthcare professionals every month from around the world for surgical training as well as disease containment and crisis management. It contains two fully equipped operating rooms, an intensive care unit, an obstetrics and gynecology room, a trauma bay and a neonatal intensive care unit. The center also includes a fully equipped computerized simulation room with simulators for practice in gastroenterological and bronchoscopy procedures; laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, urologic, neurologic and cardiovascular procedures as well as ultrasound procedures and robotic surgery.
