First Lady Jill Biden to Visit Cedars-Sinai Friday
Journalists Invited to Cover Biden Meeting with Leading Women's Health Experts, Touring Laboratories as Part of White House Initiative on Women's Health Research
The White House announced today that First Lady Jill Biden will travel to Los Angeles for a visit to Cedars-Sinai as part of the new White House Initiative on Women's Health Research.
Journalists are invited to cover the First Lady's Friday afternoon visit to the medical center's Smidt Heart Institute and Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center. The White House media advisory stated that the visit “will highlight the importance of advancing research on women’s health.”
Despite comprising half the population, women's health research is underfunded, said a White House fact sheet on the initiative. In announcing the initiative, Biden said, “Every woman I know has a story about leaving her doctor’s office with more questions than answers. Not because our doctors are withholding information, but because there’s just not enough research yet on how to best manage and treat even common women’s health conditions. In 2023, that is unacceptable. Our new White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research will help change that by identifying bold solutions to uncover the answers that every woman and her family deserves. We also are calling on congressional leaders, the private sector, research institutions, and philanthropy to join us in taking urgent action to improve the health and lives of women throughout the nation.”
