S. Mark Taper Foundation's $1M Gift Names Garden at Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s
S. Mark Taper Foundation Rabbit Garden Provides Respite to Young Patients and Their Families
The S. Mark Taper Foundation has gifted $1 million to Cedars-Sinai to name one of Guerin Children’s most popular features: a rabbit garden.
The S. Mark Taper Foundation Rabbit Garden is one of four gardens that make up a 5,000-square-foot outdoor area. The garden features rabbit-shaped seating and fresh greenery, providing a relaxing environment for inpatients and their families to enjoy.
“The impact of childlike touches at Guerin Children’s, like the S. Mark Taper Foundation Rabbit Garden, should not be underestimated,” said Arthur J. Ochoa, JD, senior vice president of Advancement and chief advancement officer for Cedars-Sinai. “The garden delights and uplifts the spirits of young patients every day—such a significant part of what we strive to do at Cedars-Sinai.”
Guerin Children’s is full of other whimsical touches, from a video wall and vibrant artwork to an interactive playroom.
Ophir Klein, MD, PhD, executive director of Guerin Children’s and executive vice dean of Children’s Services, said the garden is an example of the importance of balancing treatment with emotional support.
“Successfully caring for patients medically is just part of what we work so hard to achieve at Guerin Children’s,” said Klein, the David and Meredith Kaplan Distinguished Chair in Children’s Health. “We want children to be well physically, but also to be happy and hopeful, as they receive the best-quality, most compassionate care.”
