Cedars-Sinai Hosts Free Flu Shot Clinics Throughout L.A. Area

Three Cedars-Sinai Health System hospitals—Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Huntington Hospital and Torrance Memorial Medical Center—will hold free community flu vaccine clinics on the same day, Sunday, Oct. 8.

“We urge everyone in our community to get vaccinated because it’s so important for everyone’s health,” said Jonathan Vickburg, LMFT, associate director of Community Health Improvement at Cedars-Sinai. “Holding free flu vaccine clinics is the best way to demonstrate our commitment to our community’s health and wellbeing.”

The Oct. 8 clinics are part of a series of more than 40 free, Cedars-Sinai Health System flu vaccination clinics throughout the community. A list of upcoming clinics is below.

Influenza can cause severe illness that can lead to hospitalization and even death. During the 2022-2023 flu season in the U.S., the flu was linked with as many as 650,000 hospitalizations and as many as 58,000 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Flu activity often accelerates in October, making it critical to get vaccinated now if individuals haven’t already received their shots. Infectious disease experts from Cedars-Sinai and its affiliates strongly urge adults and children 6 months and older to get the flu vaccine.

“The flu shot is the best tool we have to protect ourselves from the flu,” said Kimberly Shriner, MD, medical director of Infection Prevention and Control at Huntington Health. “Make sure everyone in your home is vaccinated against the flu and also up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations as we approach the holiday season when people will be gathering.”

People especially vulnerable to the flu include adults 65 and older, patients with certain chronic medical conditions (asthma, diabetes, heart disease), those who are pregnant and children younger than 5.

“We hope that the public will take advantage of these free flu clinics to protect themselves and others in their community who are vulnerable to the flu,” said Torrance Memorial infectious disease specialist David D. Rand, MD.
