COACH Delivers Holiday Cheer
Dec 19, 2018 Cedars-Sinai Staff
You've probably seen the Cedars-Sinai COACH for Kids delivering medical services in communities across LA. During the holidays, the COACH team makes some additional deliveries.
Each year, Cedars-Sinai staff members come together for a special holiday tradition—the COACH Adopt-A-Family program. The program, which has been running for 17 years, pairs hospital departments with families in need during the holidays.
Participating departments receive Christmas wish lists so they can provide personalized gifts for each family member. The lists include everything from toys and books to winter clothes and household items.
This year, more than 50 departments signed up to adopt families from low-income neighborhoods.
The families are chosen by the team who runs the Cedars-Sinai COACH, the mobile medical unit that brings free medical services to children and their families throughout Los Angeles.
Once all the gifts have been collected and wrapped, the COACH team loads them up and delivers them to families in time for Christmas morning.
"This program makes a huge impact on the kids and their parents during the holidays," says Michelle Henrickson, COACH community health coordinator.
"Being able to give these families a little extra holiday joy is a privilege."
