Los Angeles — March 7, 2017 — The Cedars-Sinai Board of Directors has elected Marc H. Rapaport as chair. Rapaport, who succeeds Vera Guerin as chair, will serve a three-year term leading the governing entity for Cedars-Sinai Health System.

Founded in 1902 in Angelino Heights, Cedars-Sinai has become a leader in providing innovative primary care and specialized medicine, research, training and community service. The health system includes a world-renowned hospital as well as a growing number of office locations throughout Los Angeles to meet the needs of one of the most diverse regions in the nation.

Rapaport has served on the Board of Directors since 2003 and on its executive committee since 2007. He was vice chair of the board from 2014 to 2016. He also has served as chair of the board's finance and executive personnel committees.

Rapaport's service to Cedars-Sinai as a member of the Board of Governors dates back more than 20 years. He also has been active in the Sports Spectacular, a volunteer fundraising initiative that has provided financial support for Cedars-Sinai's research programs since its inception in 1986. Its efforts helped establish the Sports Spectacular Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

As chair, Rapaport will lead a diverse Board of Directors in its role of providing oversight and guidance to Cedars-Sinai in its crucial mission of improving the health of the community; providing high-quality, compassionate patient care; developing new medical treatments through innovative research; and training the healthcare professionals of the future. To meet the growing demands for its services, Cedars-Sinai is opening offices throughout Los Angeles that provide primary, specialty and urgent care. The health system also has expanded its community health efforts for the underserved, including grants to community clinics as well as hundreds of free screening and education programs across Los Angeles.

"I am honored to help guide Cedars-Sinai as it continues its long-standing mission to serve the communities of Los Angeles," Rapaport said.

Rapaport is a principal at Thorofare Capital, a leading commercial real estate loan origination and servicing company. In addition to his longtime volunteer leadership activities at Cedars-Sinai, he is a member of the advisory board of Our House, a nonprofit organization providing grief support services.
