Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowship
The Cedars-Sinai Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowship is a one-year fellowship that trains anesthesiologists to become experts in the perioperative care of patients undergoing hepatobiliary surgeries and procedures. In addition to liver transplants, this fellowship provides the opportunity to participate in the anesthetic care of patients undergoing major surgical oncology procedures on the hepatobiliary, general, urological and vascular surgery services.
The Cedars-Sinai Comprehensive Transplant Center is ranked highly for outcomes (96% survival of liver transplant patients at one year) and provides an excellent training environment. More than 100 liver transplants were performed in the last year. We have a diverse and complex patient population, and fellows will have an opportunity to participate in their care at each stage of the transplant process, from the preoperative transplant evaluation to the post-surgical intensive care.
In addition to advanced training in the management of hepatobiliary diseases and related surgeries, our fellows may tailor their fellowship training to pursue certification in a field of personal interest, such as point-of-care ultrasound or transesophageal echocardiography.
Fellows are expected, with mentoring by the faculty, to develop an area of academic interest during their fellowship year. They will have the opportunity to present their work at national and/or international conferences and to pursue funding for their work. Those interested in research are able to dedicate two months of elective time to a chosen research project.
The Department of Anesthesiology has a history of commitment to education, research and state-of the-art clinical practice. Our liver transplant anesthesia faculty is here to assist in any way they can to make your educational experience memorable. It is our hope that you will have a most enjoyable and meaningful year of training.
