Training & Curriculum

The fellow's clinical experience is well balanced between direct clinical care of patients and supervision of residents. Approximately 45% of the required case numbers are obtained with the fellow as the primary anesthesia provider under the supervision of a faculty anesthesiologist. Fellows also work with residents on a regular basis, allowing them to augment their roles as teachers and gain experience in supervision.

The fellowship consists of 12 calendar months of clinical and didactic teaching.

Fellows must participate actively in scholarly activities related to hepatobiliary anesthesiology, such as quality improvement and patient safety projects. Each fellow must complete a minimum of one academic assignment.

Fellows are also extensively prepared for the ABA Oral Board Examination with mock examinations and oral board review with faculty members.
