The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers a one-year fellowship in combined surgical/subspecialty pathology with emphasis on diagnostic dermatopathology and musculoskeletal pathology. The Division of Anatomic Pathology is a very busy, high-volume complex surgical pathology practice. The core of the training is clinical in nature. The fellow is encouraged to participate in ongoing investigative projects in the area of dermatopathology and musculoskeletal pathology. We have dedicated faculty that cover all areas of surgical pathology (including dermatopathology and musculoskeletal pathology), state-of-the-art opportunities for cutting edge research with faculty mentorship and wide variety of cases, including 50,000 in-house general surgical specimens and 15,000 skin specimens annually, and active immunofluorescence and intra-operative consultation services. Fellows will have comprehensive training in laboratory processing, specimen screening, intra-procedural evaluation, as well as diagnostic interpretation and reporting, and will be exposed to ancillary studies, such as immunohistochemistry and molecular tests, including next-generation sequencing. They will gain additional clinical experience while rotating at Cedars-Sinai Dermatology Medical Group and be able to actively participate in multidisciplinary cutaneous oncology and sarcoma tumor boards.
