Supporting Cancer Patients Through a Comforting Retail Space

Pre- and post-mastectomy garments and compression garments for women and men, including head coverings, are just some of the carefully curated items available at the Boutique, a unique retail therapy space located within the new Cedars-Sinai Breast Health Services Building

"More than just the merchandise, the Boutique aims to provide cancer patients with compassionate support for the emotional and physical changes at every stage of treatment," said Linda Hirsh, Boutique manager and certified mastectomy fitter. Hirsh’s priority is helping patients feel comfortable with themselves.

"When people come into the space, I really want them to feel like they’re coming into a friend’s home," Hirsh said. "If they’re feeling very vulnerable, I can cry with them. If they’re feeling happy, I can give them a hug. I just want people to feel the best that they can feel and look like themselves again."

In addition to items related to patients’ surgical and physical needs, the space also offers goods such as candles and skin care products to allow patients to have fun while shopping.

The Boutique is part of the new Breast Health Services Building and located steps away from Cedars-Sinai’s Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, which opened in its new location in June 2020. The building features state-of-the-art imaging technology, efficiently centralized care and a bright, beautiful space designed to make patients feel comfortable and enable them to focus on healing.

"The building really symbolizes Cedars-Sinai’s commitment to the patient with breast cancer," said Armando Giuliano, MD, the Linda and Jim Lippman Chair in Surgical Oncology and chief of Surgical Oncology. "Like our management of patients, it’s contemporary, it’s hopeful and it’s compassionate."

The first space of its kind in the L.A. area, the Boutique is a resource for the general public too, as well as all Cedars-Sinai patients. Current business hours are Monday–Friday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.. Walk-ins are welcome, or to make an appointment call 310-423-7575. Convenient and dedicated parking is available on-site adjacent to the Breast Health Services Building, including both self-park and valet options with the first hour free of charge.
