“We can do more laparoscopically than you would believe, enabling women to get back to living fully with a lower risk of complications than traditional surgical procedures, providing the care they deserve,” said Hamilton.
The Object: For over a decade, Hamilton has worn her grandmother Lois Hamilton’s high school class ring—a symbol of grit and compassion. Lois persevered when her husband was grievously injured by a landmine in the Korean War and after the couple lost their first son to a brain aneurysm. Lois continued to care for her family, began working in a school cafeteria and was active in her community.
Why It’s Important: The ring brings Hamilton back to her purpose, reminding her of the limited opportunities for women of her grandmother’s generation compared to her own—and helping her to be mindful of how new these privileges are.
“Often, the women we care for have been suffering and overlooked, all while caring for their families and working. The ring inspires gratitude, and it’s a driving force to keep pushing forward!” she said.
