Learn what happens in the Virtual Second Opinion educational session from Cedars-Sinai, including how to prepare and what to expect.
After receiving your written second opinion report, the next step in the Cedars-Sinai Virtual Second Opinion program is the virtual educational session. This session is an opportunity to speak directly with the expert who reviewed your case, helping you better understand the insights in your report and gain clarity around your submitted questions.
The session lasts up to 30 minutes and is held over secure video. It’s not a medical consultation or telehealth appointment—you won’t receive diagnoses, prescriptions or treatment plans during this time. Instead, the focus is on education: helping you understand the content of your second opinion report and how to interpret it in the context of your care.
During the session, the physician will walk you through their findings, explain key medical points and address the three questions you submitted with your case. Many participants find this to be the most helpful part of the process. It allows you to hear directly from a leading expert and explore how their insights relate to your diagnosis and treatment options.
To prepare, review your written report ahead of time and write down any follow-up questions or concerns you want to raise. You may also want to have a loved one join you to help take notes or support the conversation. Remember, this session is for your benefit—a chance to feel more informed, empowered and involved.
Cedars-Sinai offers Virtual Second Opinions for hundreds of conditions, and the educational session is an important part of turning expert insight into confident next steps. Learn what decisions people face after the completion of the second opinion process in our follow-up article.
