Cedars-Sinai offers a Virtual Second Opinion program for undiagnosed conditions. Learn how the program helps participants searching for answers.
If you’ve seen multiple doctors and undergone countless tests but still don’t have a clear diagnosis, you’re not alone—and you’re not without options. Cedars-Sinai’s Undiagnosed Conditions program, offered through the Virtual Second Opinion program, is designed specifically for individuals whose conditions remain unexplained, even after extensive medical evaluations.
The Undiagnosed Conditions program is intended for individuals who have ongoing or complex symptoms without a clear diagnosis, have seen multiple providers or specialists with no resolution, or are seeking expert review by a multidisciplinary team rather than a single doctor. The entire process is conducted virtually, though in-person testing or follow-up may be recommended based on findings.
The process begins with a comprehensive intake and eligibility screening. A nurse coordinator gathers information about your symptoms and diagnostic history, assesses eligibility and helps collect consent and, if applicable, proxy documentation. This intake call is particularly important due to the complexity of undiagnosed cases.
Next, you and your coordinator work together to gather medical records from the many places where you’ve sought care. This includes office visit notes, lab results, imaging reports, prior consults and specialist assessments. Your active participation is vital throughout this step.
Unlike standard second opinions, which focus on confirming or updating an existing diagnosis with input from a single matched specialist, the review process in the Undiagnosed Conditions program involves a multidisciplinary team of specialists. They evaluate patterns, potential diagnoses and next diagnostic steps to determine if further evaluation may help advance your diagnostic journey.
If the team believes they can offer meaningful insights, you’ll receive a written second opinion report with potential diagnostic pathways or specialty recommendations. If the team concludes that further diagnostic steps are not recommended, an administrative fee will be retained for the review of records.
If you’re interested in the Undiagnosed Conditions program, start by enrolling online here. Our team will review your submission and contact you for a screening call. You will receive guidance every step of the way. For more information, contact our team at [email protected].
Cedars-Sinai offers Virtual Second Opinions for hundreds of conditions, including those that remain undiagnosed. If you’ve been searching for answers without success, the Undiagnosed Conditions program could be the next right step.
