Sarah Francis, MA, LSSBB
Administrative Services Associate

Sarah Francis, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, leads initiatives to enhance systems and processes in the Department of Surgery and Interventional Services. Analyzing data from various sources, she improves communication and streamlines processes. Francis focuses on implementing long-term solutions with and for process owners, informed by best practices. Her prior work emphasizes improving patient flow, standardizing roles, evaluating technology's impact on in-person communication, and managing a nine-month leadership in healthcare improvement program for residents and fellows.

Eric Ley, MD
Medical Director, Surgical Critical Care Unit

Eric Ley, MD, is a surgeon who has worked on multiple projects that utilize human factors to improve the delivery of trauma and intensive unit care. In addition, his translational benchtop research investigates the catecholamine response after trauma and the role of beta blockers in traumatic brain injury. Ley is the medical director of the Cedars-Sinai Surgical Critical Care Unit and program director for the Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship.

Daniel Shouhed, MD
Faculty, Minimally Invasive Surgery

Daniel Shouhed, MD, is a surgeon in minimally invasive, bariatric and foregut procedures at Cedars-Sinai. He completed his surgical training at Cedars-Sinai and his fellowship training in metabolic, endocrine and minimally invasive surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York. Currently, Shouhed’s research focuses on human factors in surgery and the role practitioners’ emotional intelligence plays in patient outcomes and litigation. He has presented his research at several national surgical meetings and has authored publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA SurgeryJournal of the American College of Surgeons and World Journal of Surgery.

Jennifer Anger, MD
Associate Professor of Urology and Associate Director of Urological Research

Jennifer Anger, MD, received her bachelor's degree in integrative biology from the University of California, Berkeley, her master's degree from the UCLA School of Public Health and earned her medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. Her research has focused on the quality of care for women with urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse, including the safety and efficiency of robotic-assisted surgery.
