Interventional Cardiology
Preclinical Research
In preclinical research projects, investigators are studying cellular pathways governing valve degeneration and potential molecular targets for drug therapy. Investigators also evaluate percutaneous intervention technologies that translate into clinical treatment for structural heart disease.
- Principal Investigators: Raj Makkar, MD, and Saibal Kar, MD
Clinical Research
Investigators participate in multiple national clinical trials and investigations using devices aiming to prolong survival and improve patients' quality of life after surgery. Clinical research projects primarily focus on the treatment of structural heart disease, investigational interventions for aortic stenosis, mitral and pulmonic valve regurgitation, ischemic heart disease and patent foramen oval.
