Addiction Psychiatry Program
The Addiction Psychiatry Consultation Program provides evidence-based, compassionate care for persons with substance-use disorders and related problems who are currently hospitalized for medical reasons. Our program brings together the best available assessment tools and treatments, ranging from psychotherapy to medication to current patients.
Our experts lead research to understand and discover treatments for substance use disorders. We work closely with community providers and programs to link our patients to a continuum of addiction treatment services after they leave the hospital. Cedars-Sinai also has a thriving community outreach program, including TEEN LINE and the Psychological Trauma Center.
Our Expert Team
Under the leadership of Itai Danovitch, MD, our expert team treats a wide range of conditions associated with addiction, including mental health disorders, chronic pain, and other medical problems.
Our Treatment Philosophy
Addiction describes a habitual behavior characterized by loss of control, compulsivity, and inability to stop despite harmful consequences. Examples include addiction to alcohol, tobacco, opioids, cannabis, stimulants, and certain prescription medications.
Addiction is caused by an interplay of biology, social and developmental factors, and psychological characteristics. Recovery often requires first dealing with the substance use, and then addressing the issues underlying it.
