Frequently Asked Questions
Your doctor may refer you for a therapy evaluation or consult, based on medical necessity. This may occur if you have experienced a recent decline in function, or if you have had a recent illness or injury that has affected your ability to resume your prior activities. At that time, a thorough evaluation will be completed by one of our licensed therapists. Recommendations for therapy will be made based on the results of the evaluation.
Your doctor will prescribe and request evaluations by physical therapists, occupational therapists and/or speech-language pathologists as appropriate. The therapists will evaluate and if indicated, provide treatment while you are in the hospital. As part of the discharge plan, recommendations for continued therapy through the Department Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will may be made by your treatment team.
At Cedars-Sinai, we provide therapy in a variety of settings: Acute Therapy Services, Inpatient Rehabilitation/California Rehabilitation Institute, Outpatient Rehabilitation and other community services if needed may be arranged by the social worker. We can help you transition from one level of care to another. As always, your doctor will be an integral part of these transition plans.
Individuals at home may obtain Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at the Mark Goodson Building. A physician's written prescription is needed and may be sent by fax or mail. Prior authorization by the patient's health plan or insurance carrier may be needed. Following receipt of the prescription, the individual will be contacted to arrange an initial evaluation.
