General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai is the home of the Department of Medicine's primary care activities - incorporating educational, outpatient and inpatient services that focus on prevention of disease and that complement the activities of the community physicians who practice at Cedars-Sinai.
Internal medicine physicians (often referred to as internists or general internists) have expertise in preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases that affect adult patients. Other physicians frequently consult with or refer patients to an internist for difficult diagnostic problems. These internists practice at convenient location across Los Angeles and Southern California.
The Division of General Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai offers a range of services designed to care for the patient from preventive medicine, screening and health promotion to critical care. The Division of General Internal Medicine is also dedicated to training the next generation of physicians through active teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. Research and quality improvement projects complement our activity in patient care and teaching and include the application of evidence-based medicine and research in medical informatics. Specialized activities of the division include the care of patients in the intensive care unit, Employee Health Services, and the Procedure Center. General care of inpatients is provided by hospitalists in the division's Faculty Service.
