Advanced Heart Disease

The Cedars-Sinai Advanced Heart Disease Program provides coordinated and comprehensive care to patients with complex heart disease. This includes optimizing medical therapies for heart failure and evaluating patients for advanced interventions such as heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. The program offers patients a full complement of care options, diagnostic testing and expertise in advanced therapies while maintaining a personalized approach to your heart care, with support from an interdisciplinary team.

The Advanced Heart Disease Program seamlessly manages the care of patients with complex heart failure across the continuum of care options.

The Advanced Heart Disease Program offers the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options, but perhaps more importantly, we are fully focused on helping patients understand and navigate the best care plans for them."

Clinical Programs & Services

A highly specialized program offering a team approach and personalized treatment options for patients coping with advanced heart failure and cardiomyopathy.

The nation's leading program for adult heart transplants, offering advanced options in cardiac support devices, surgical techniques and anti-rejection technologies.

Offering innovative care for patients awaiting a donor transplant or as a permanent treatment option using lifesaving cardiac technology.

Specialty Programs

The Advanced Heart Disease Program offers specialized expertise in emerging areas, providing expanded options for patients with complex or rare conditions.

Cardiac Amyloidosis

(AL Amyloidosis and Transthyretin-Related Amyloidosis)
Cardiac amyloidosis often goes undetected as a cause of heart failure. Patients often present with restrictive cardiomyopathy (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction) or may show no symptoms. The Advanced Heart Disease program includes a multidisciplinary team of experts who collaborate closely to deliver comprehensive treatments for patients.

Hemodynamically Guided Therapy

Patients hospitalized with severe symptoms of heart failure have access to a specialized program to stabilize fluid balance, improve kidney function and reduce repeat hospitalizations, with guidance, monitoring and individualized patient education from our multidisciplinary team.

Precision Medicine Program

Precision medicine is an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle for each person. This approach is embraced to allow for individualized treatment strategies that optimize outcomes and quality of life.

Temporary Percutaneous Mechanical Circulatory Support Devices

Recent advances in mechanical circulatory support technology have led to new short-term devices that can be placed percutaneously to provide immediate support to hemodynamically unstable patients. We have pioneered the use of these technologies and offer both the latest devices, as well as our expertise for successfully using them.

Ex Vivo Perfusion (Heart-in-the-Box) Program

The use of ex vivo perfusion provides blood flow to a donor heart in a protected box and allows the heart to beat, extending the time that the heart can be kept outside the body while being transported. This technology has been studied at Cedars-Sinai and, once approved by the FDA, will expand the donor pool for our patients.

Desensitization Program

Specializing in the treatment of highly sensitized patients, we offer advanced strategies to successfully transplant patients with high circulating antibodies who would otherwise reject a donor heart. This includes novel therapeutic options in the pre-transplant, perioperative and post-transplant periods.
