Many patients need help coping with the stress that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis and its treatments. So might their friends and families. The Oncology Social Work team at Cedars-Sinai is here to help.

Emotional Support

Our clinical social workers are licensed therapists and provide caring, expert counseling to help patients navigate the emotional landscape of cancer.

Our Clinical Social Work Team Offers:

  • Talk-psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families
  • Education about physical and mental coping techniques
  • Help with talking to family members and others about one's experience
  • Advice on topics like intimacy, fertility and appearance

Other Types of Support for Cancer Patients:

  • The clinical social work team can help communicate with a patient's cancer care team and also assist with practical matters—from writing advance health directives to understanding Social Security benefits, transportation and lodging options, and community resources for legal services and financial help.
  • They can also provide referrals to community support groups and guidance on community resources for other cancer-specific needs.
