Maya, MD, FACR, a Cedars-Sinai neuroradiologist who has led transformational initiatives to improve patient imaging over the last two decades, has been named chair of the Department of Imaging.

Maya, a professor of Imaging, has served as co-chair of the department since 2011 and will now lead its clinical, research and education programs. He was director of the Radiology Residency Program from 2003-11.

“Dr. Maya will drive innovation and continuous improvement of our imaging services across Cedars-Sinai,” said Ravi Thadhani, MD, MPH, executive vice president, chief physician executive and dean of the Medical Faculty.

Among Maya’s primary goals as chair will be to deliver safe and timely access to high-quality imaging while supporting growing clinical needs as the demand for Cedars-Sinai services increases. He also will aim to strengthen organizational partnerships, including joint ventures, to deliver leading-edge services.

Maya currently practices as a neuroradiologist and neuro-interventionalist, integrated into Cedars-Sinai’s stroke, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, spine and multiple sclerosis programs. While he will devote most of his time to his new responsibilities as chair, he will continue to provide clinical support for these programs.

In clinical practice, Maya uses advanced imaging to diagnose conditions affecting the brain and spine, and minimally invasive and image-guided techniques to diagnose and treat strokes, CSF leaks and other conditions.

Maya has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications.
