The U.S. News rankings, released Tuesday, are based on patient outcomes, patient experience, ability to handle complex medical conditions and a variety of other health-related measures.

The rankings signal to international patients that Cedars-Sinai meets rigorous standards for clinical excellence, research and innovation, providing further assurance that patients will receive world-class care from a trusted, globally recognized institution.

U.S. News selects the top-performing hospitals for the Honor Roll based on their high rankings and ratings in multiple specialties, procedures and conditions.

Ten Cedars-Sinai specialties made the list of top clinical programs in the U.S. Three of the specialties were ranked in the top five:

• Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery
• Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
• Orthopedics

Other top-ranked specialties in the U.S. included Cancer; Diabetes & Endocrinology; Geriatrics; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Obstetrics & Gynecology; Pulmonology & Lung Surgery; and Urology.

The new clinic, located at 76 New Cavendish St. in London’s Harley Street Health District, will serve as a regional hub for patients in the U.K. and for global travelers, including those from the U.S. It will provide high-quality primary care, executive health and concierge medicine, while establishing an important international bridge to better coordinate care between healthcare systems in the U.K. and Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.

“Cedars-Sinai’s newest location is designed to meet the needs of patients seeking a seamless healthcare experience from one of the top-rated academic health systems in the world,” said Sandeep Kapur, MD, medical director of Cedars-Sinai Clinic London.

Spanning four floors, the new clinic features four private exam rooms designed for in-depth, personalized consultations. Patients can also access on-site diagnostic services, including DEXA, ultrasound and ECHO machines, with access to advanced imaging and testing.

Patients who visit the clinic can access second opinions, specialty consultations and referrals to Cedars-Sinai physicians in Los Angeles. Likewise, Cedars-Sinai patients traveling to or residing in the U.K. can receive care through the clinic in London.

Cedars-Sinai created 11 new high-skilled clinical and operational roles, which will double when the clinic is at full operational mode. The clinic is designed with healing in mind. A reception area features a modern welcoming and soothing atmosphere in addition to an exclusive lounge for patients and their caregivers to relax.

Cedars-Sinai entered the U.K. in March 2025 through a strategic collaboration with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The collaboration expanded access to specialty care by establishing Cedars-Sinai’s first clinical presence in London. The clinic, located at 79 Wimpole St. in the Royal Brompton & Harefield Specialist Care building, features two exam rooms.

Leaders of the new, larger clinic said its comprehensive approach will make a big difference for those who receive services.

Cedars-Sinai selected London as the location for the organization’s first flagship international clinic due to its role as a leading global healthcare hub, with a growing private healthcare sector and a diverse population of internationally mobile patients.  The Harley Street Medical Area alone is home to thousands of clinicians and specialist services, making it the most concentrated center of private medical care in the U.K. The clinic will help meet the growing demand for private healthcare services in the U.K. and internationally.

Hassoun told Becker’s Healthcare Podcast host Scott Becker that while the international program initially focused on medical travel—bringing international patients to Los Angeles for care—the program has transformed into a comprehensive global healthcare model.

“To be a top program today, you need to do far more than that,” Hassoun told Becker. “You need to bring not only direct care closer to patients where they are but also improve the continuity of care and the care delivery in those communities.”

One major initiative is the launch of wholly owned concierge clinics in strategic international cities, beginning with London. Additional clinics are planned for Singapore, Dubai and Mexico City—locations Hassoun described to Becker as “international cities with crossroads” that serve globally traveling patients who want to access Cedars-Sinai care.

“I feel like we’re building the modern railroad for healthcare,” Hassoun told Becker, describing the infrastructure needed to maintain continuity of care across borders.

Hassoun told Becker successful international expansion requires deep understanding of local markets, cultures and healthcare dynamics.

“Culture, as we always talk, eats strategy for lunch every day of the week,” he said. “You just have to take the time and really understand what’s happening, the dynamics, the physician practices.”

Hassoun told Becker healthcare delivery and medical science are increasingly interconnected across borders.

The New Cavendish Street location will serve as the central hub for primary care, executive health and concierge services. The location will also offer MRI and CT imaging, cardiac testing and ultrasounds. It will also provide echocardiography—imaging used to diagnose heart disease—and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, commonly used to analyze bone density and body composition. A key aim is to provide personalized, coordinated care.

The U.S. News rankings, released Tuesday, are based on patient outcomes, patient experience, technology, ability to handle complex medical conditions and a variety of other health-related measures.

The rankings signal to international patients that Cedars-Sinai meets rigorous standards for clinical excellence, research and innovation, providing further assurance that patients will receive world-class care from a trusted, globally recognized institution.

The new office will serve as the first point of contact for patients in Ecuador seeking Cedars-Sinai expert care. The team will assess patients to determine their medical needs and connect them with Cedars-Sinai specialists in cardiology, oncology, neurology and other areas of medicine. The goal is to broaden options for Ecuadorian patients who cannot receive specialized care near their home, said Heitham Hassoun, MD, chief executive of Cedars-Sinai International.

“We are pleased to build upon our strong relationships with Ecuadorian healthcare providers by establishing this office, which will help patients with complex medical conditions access leading-edge treatment and exceptional healthcare in Los Angeles,” Hassoun said.  

The new office is located in the Hospital de los Valles, with which Cedars-Sinai established a strategic collaboration more than two years ago. Experts at the two hospitals collaborate by sharing knowledge about advancements in research and clinical care, and through access to training opportunities. Cedars-Sinai physicians also conduct quality assessments at Hospital de los Valles to support its efforts in obtaining accreditations for specialty clinics.

The collaboration has helped Cedars-Sinai physicians become familiar with the Ecuadorian patient community and the hospital. The newly opened Cedars-Sinai office in Quito reflects Cedars-Sinai’s mission to enhance global collaboration and bring excellence in healthcare closer to our patients, wherever they are, said Nicole Dube-Rosson, director, Global Services Operations at Cedars-Sinai. 

“This new office demonstrates our continued investment in the Ecuadorian community’s health and our commitment to bolstering our presence in Latin America,” Rosson said. “We are honored for the opportunity to provide the patient-centered experience Cedars-Sinai is known for from the minute patients walk through the doors of our new office.”

Cedars-Sinai experts are participating in Abu Dhabi Global Health Week, April 15-17 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The conference is dedicated to fostering collaboration among clinicians and researchers, with the goal of enhancing healthcare worldwide.

This marks the second consecutive year that Cedars-Sinai International leaders are attending, underscoring Cedars-Sinai’s dedication to sharing medical innovations and learning from global partners. The significant award recognizes Hassoun’s contributions to global healthcare, visionary leadership and experience in international patient services, hospital partnerships and academic medicine.

“The International Healthcare Leadership Award celebrates leaders whose commitment, values, and contributions have significantly and positively impacted the provision of healthcare across international borders,” said Jill Schwieters, chair of the organization’s board of directors. “Dr. Hassoun’s strategic vision and commitment to collaborative, culturally attuned care for diverse patient populations at Cedars-Sinai and abroad embody these values.” 

Hassoun will be presented with the award during the NCHL 2024 Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at the Field Museum in Chicago.

Hassoun joined Cedars-Sinai in 2018 as vice president and medical director of Cedars-Sinai International. He facilitated Cedars-Sinai’s first global partnership, The View Hospital in affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, located in Doha, Qatar. Hassoun has also led academic and strategic collaborations in China, Ecuador, Indonesia, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. Hassoun has expanded Cedars-Sinai’s global footprint through regional offices in various countries, including China, Mexico, and Singapore, with additional offices in the planning stages.

“I am deeply honored to accept the 2024 NCHL International Healthcare Leadership Award. Hassoun serves on the Advisory Council of the United States Cooperative for International Patient Programs (USCIPP), a group of United States academic medical centers that work with international patients and hospitals, foreign governments, and other partners worldwide to improve global health and access to healthcare. Hassoun also recently joined the board of directors of Direct Relief, a leading institution in providing medical humanitarian aid to those in need across 88 countries and 55 U.S. states and territories.

Cedars-Sinai has promoted three key executives,

Hassoun is a highly regarded clinician with considerable experience in global partnerships, international patient services, health system development and academic medicine. In his new role as chief executive of Cedars-Sinai International, Hassoun will continue to lead Cedars-Sinai’s strategic efforts to expand global reach through worldwide collaborations and affiliations.

Hassoun joined Cedars-Sinai in 2018 as vice president and medical director of Cedars-Sinai International.  He shepherded Cedars-Sinai’s first global affiliation, The View Hospital in Affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, in Doha, Qatar. Hassoun also has led academic and strategic collaborations in China, Ecuador, Indonesia, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. Simultaneously, Hassoun has overseen the expansion of Cedars-Sinai’s regional offices in multiple countries, including China, Mexico and Singapore. 

In addition to leading Cedars-Sinai International, Hassoun is a professor of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai and maintains a clinical practice in vascular and endovascular surgery. 

Laur has been promoted to chief executive of Intellectual Property and Health Ventures at Cedars-Sinai. The move recognizes the significant expansion of Laur’s responsibility over the institution’s innovation activities that span the development of early-stage biotech and health-tech assets to the establishment of spinoff companies through engagement with developing companies and venture investment activities.

As a part of his new position, Laur will serve as chief executive officer of Cedars-Sinai Intellectual Property Company, a newly created entity that is responsible for the institution’s technology transfer and intellectual property-related activities. He also will continue his leadership role as managing director of Cedars-Sinai Health Ventures.

In addition, Laur is responsible for the Cedars-Sinai Accelerator, in which company leaders from around the world receive funding, hands-on experience and Cedars-Sinai mentorship as they develop innovative healthcare products and solutions.

In his former role as vice president of Intellectual Property at Cedars-Sinai, Laur transformed the program into a nationally recognized enterprise that has been consistently ranked among the top 10 programs of its kind for the past decade. He joined Cedars-Sinai in 1991 as assistant legal counsel in the Legal Affairs Department.

Chen has been promoted to the newly created role of associate chief financial officer, adding to her current title and responsibilities as vice president of Finance. Chen will oversee financial operations for Cedars-Sinai, planning, directing and coordinating financial management policy and activities to ensure short-term fiscal discipline and long-term financial strength for the organization.

She also will be responsible for the overall management of financial decision support and reimbursement functions, departmental budgeting, target setting and efficiency, as well as business plan analysis and long-range strategic financial analysis. Chen will retain current responsibilities over accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable and payroll until a successor is named.

Chen is a certified public accountant. She joined Cedars-Sinai in 2015 as manager of Accounting.

Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week, organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, is expected to bring together more than 5,000 attendees and around 100 exhibitors as it aims to address global perspectives and challenges, shaping trajectories for a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem, with the ultimate goal of “accelerating the future of global healthcare.” The event also will feature a series of conferences, with experts from around the world discussing key topics, such as medical research, technology, patient care, and healthcare policy.

One such expert is Clive Svendsen, PhD, executive director of the Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute at Cedars-Sinai. During Svendsen’s session, “The Secret Life of Stem Cells: Pioneering the Future of Regenerative Medicine,” he will discuss the promise of stem cells for creating new models of human disease, treating degenerative diseases and improving health during aging. Svendsen will also discuss his collaboration with NASA, through which enhancing stem cell growth and tissue generation in space may lead to medical breakthroughs on earth.

“I’m looking forward to bringing this topic to the international stage,” Svendsen said. “Coming together at the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week event, we have the unique opportunity to not only share our expertise, but also to learn from other global healthcare leaders in this space.”

Robert Figlin, MD, deputy director of Cedars-Sinai Cancer and the Steven Spielberg Family Chair in Hematology-Oncology, who played a role in establishing the Singapore office, said continuity of care for international patients is key.

“By first meeting international patients in their home community, we can establish a comprehensive, patient-centric continuum of care with the goal of improving treatment outcomes for even the most complex cases,” Figlin said. “We work together with patients’ local physicians to provide each patient with a personalized treatment plan.”

The Cedars-Sinai office in Singapore, located in the Novena medical hub area, is led by Steven Tucker, MD, an American medical oncologist who has lived and practiced medicine in Singapore for nearly 20 years.   

“We are excited to bring the extensive knowledge of Cedars-Sinai experts to the vibrant community here in Singapore,” Tucker said. “In Singapore, we can support patients directly and uphold the exceptional standard of care that the global community expects from Cedars-Sinai.”

Additionally, the new global office will support ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing between clinicians and medical researchers in the U.S. and those within Southeast Asia.

Other locations with Cedars-Sinai global offices include Mexico City, Mexico, and Shanghai, China, with others coming soon in Qatar, Ecuador, and beyond.

Arab Health, the world’s second-largest healthcare trade show, brings together more than 40,000 attendees from 185-plus countries. This year, some of Cedars-Sinai’s leading experts will play active roles in Arab Health.

Alan Dubovsky, vice president and chief patient experience officer, will participate in a panel discussion on Thursday, Feb. 1, about the growing field of patient experience.

Harry Sax, MD, professor and executive vice chair of Surgery and associate dean for International Academic Programs, will serve on a panel that will judge a competition among healthcare start-up companies. “I am honored to help evaluate new healthcare solutions,” Sax said. “I am even more excited to see the next generation of healthcare entrepreneurs in action and to learn from them.”

Cedars-Sinai has been named to the Honor Roll for the eighth consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Hospitals 2023-24" rankings. Cedars-Sinai also had 11 specialties ranked in the U.S. This means that Cedars-Sinai is among the top hospitals in the U.S. in those clinical areas.

Through affiliations, collaborations, office openings and teleconsultations, Cedars-Sinai continues to expand globally. 

Among these collaborations is Cedars-Sinai’s affiliation with Elegancia Healthcare, a subsidiary of Estithmar Holding, for The View Hospital. The state-of-the-art facility, which opened in December 2022 in Doha, Qatar, features 240 patient beds and several centers of excellence. At The View Hospital, physicians can access Cedars-Sinai’s renowned specialists and collaborate to provide patients with the highest level of healthcare. Experts in orthopaedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology are part of the hospital’s Visiting Physician Program.

Cedars-Sinai International has opened a new, conveniently located office in Mexico City. Consultants in the office help patients and families seeking care at Cedars-Sinai and can assist with scheduling telehealth consultations. Cedars-Sinai’s international office presence continues to grow with upcoming openings in Singapore, China and beyond.

Other projects include a collaboration with Eka Hospital Group, one of the largest private healthcare entities in Indonesia, which will help support Eka’s efforts to enhance the quality of clinical services and President Joko Widodo’s objective to transform the national health system.

In Ecuador, Cedars-Sinai is collaborating with Hospital de los Valles to strengthen private healthcare in the country, providing patients with access to the latest medical and technological advances while allowing doctors to share experiences and knowledge.

And in China, Cedars-Sinai and Taikang Healthcare have signed a long-term collaboration agreement for the development of the 1,160-bed Shenzhen Qianhai Taikang International Hospital. In this relationship, Cedars-Sinai will provide its knowledge and experience in clinical and operational excellence to support the future hospital to meet international quality standards.

The new office will help connect patients who live in Mexico with Cedars-Sinai experts in cardiology, oncology, neurology and other specialty areas. Consultants in the office will work with patients and families seeking referrals to care at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles and can help schedule telehealth consultations.

Additionally, the office will support ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing between U.S. and Mexico clinicians and researchers. The office will not provide on-site patient care.

“Fundamentally, our goal is to bring care and our knowledge closer to all the patients and communities we serve, and certainly the community of Mexico is near and dear to our hearts, not only as a bordering country, but also because Los Angeles is home to many Mexican-Americans, and their culture is woven into Southern California,” said Heitham Hassoun, MD, vice president and medical director of Cedars-Sinai International.

The new office boasts a spacious, modern design with expansive views of the city, and is centrally located in western Mexico City. While Cedars-Sinai previously has had offices in Mexico City, the new office represents a new chapter in Cedars-Sinai’s growing presence in Mexico and Latin America.

In 2022, during the height of the spread of the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Cedars-Sinai investigators Eric Vail, MD, and Jasmine Plummer, PhD, collaborated with Mexico City investigators on a study that tested swab samples from people in the Mexico City area who had COVID-19 symptoms. The investigators’ findings demonstrated that the highly contagious Delta variant was the dominant strain of the virus during that time, accounting for 78% of COVID-19 cases.

“Research collaborations like this can enhance our understanding of medicine around the world,” said Jorge Goldberg, MD, senior consultant and head of the Mexico office. “Especially during the pandemic, this example of global cooperation has been critical to paving the way toward a healthier future.”

In early 2023, three experts from the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai addressed the Congreso Anual de Cardiología Internacional (Annual Congress of International Cardiology) in Guadalajara. Eduardo Marbán, MD, PhD, Eugenio Cingolani, MD, and Hasanian Jilaihawi, MD, presented breakthroughs in cardiology treatments and procedures to attendees of Mexico’s premier conference for cardiologists. More than 3,000 physicians and scientists across Latin America were in attendance. Marbán, executive director of the Smidt Heart Institute, said he looks forward to continued involvement in the yearly meeting to share leading-edge research developments and new treatment options.

Kulber and physician assistant Kylie Tanabe, MPH, were the latest Cedars-Sinai medical experts to consult at the hospital. Earlier this year, Mark Vrahas, MD, chair of the Cedars-Sinai Department of Orthopaedics, and Bert Mandelbaum, MD, co-chair of Medical Affairs at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, traveled to Doha to determine what patients need from the hand surgery program at The View Hospital and how Cedars-Sinai can assist.

Further visits are being planned in the coming months for Cedars-Sinai cardiologists, gastroenterologists, obstetricians and gynecologists as part of the hospital’s Visiting Physician Program.

“Dr. Kulber’s visit is a continuation of the deepening relationship between Cedars-Sinai and The View Hospital,” said Heitham Hassoun, MD, Cedars-Sinai vice president and medical director of Cedars-Sinai International. “The continued collaboration with our partners in Doha is fostering knowledge exchange between physicians that will enhance the highest-quality patient care for patients in Qatar.”

The View Hospital, which opened on Dec. 18, 2022, is an affiliation between Elegancia Healthcare, a subsidiary of Estithmar Holding, and Cedars-Sinai. It provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient programs, with 240 inpatient beds and several specialties and centers of excellence—all equipped with the latest technology.

Kulber, chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Cedars-Sinai and director of plastic surgery for the Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation, and Tanabe met with The View Hospital’s leadership teams from the General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery departments. Kulber gave a presentation to the medical staff about the latest advances in hand and upper extremity surgery and surgical education.

Kulber and Tanabe’s visit came amid a growing need for the hand surgery specialty in Qatar.  

“I am inspired by the medical care my colleagues are delivering at The View Hospital,” Kulber said. “I’m looking forward to our continued collaboration, which will enhance our collective skills and understanding, enabling us to continue to heal and transform lives.”
