MEDIA ADVISORY: Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles Rams Provide Free Back-to-School Sports Physicals
Media Invited to Cover 150 High School Athletes Getting Medical Exams at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles Challengers Clubhouse
Cedars-Sinai and the Los Angeles Rams are joining forces to help underserved student athletes by providing the medical exams they need to participate in school sports. Nine Cedars-Sinai physicians are volunteering to give free physicals to 150 teenage boys and girls who play tackle and flag football at schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The physicals will include on-the-spot electrocardiograms (EKGs) when necessary. Each participant will receive a Rams Super Bowl LVI hat and snacks provided by Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions In addition, LAUSD will cover the cost of transportation for each school to ensure that the students can easily access the physicals.
Annual physical exams are a requirement for LAUSD athletes to participate in school sports. Yet many students, particularly those in underserved areas, lack access to primary care physicians. The need was made clear in a survey conducted by the L.A. Rams with LAUSD last year. The free physicals help meet the needs of students who otherwise would not be able to participate in school sports.
Thirty students from five schools, including: Mervyn M. Dymally High School, Manual Arts Senior High School, Augustus Hawkins High School, Santee Education Complex, and John C. Fremont High School will be given pre-participation physical exams. Exams will take place at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles Challengers Clubhouse, whose field was refurbished earlier this year by Andrew Whitworth, Super Bowl LVI Champion and the 2021 Walter Payton NFL Man Of The Year. Along with the L.A. Rams, Cedars-Sinai and other partners, the effort kicked off the support of year-round programming at the Boys & Girls Club Los Angeles.
