Cedars-Sinai Volunteers Bring the Polls to Patients this Election Day

Special program helps medical center patients unable to get to polls to cast ballots.

Los Angeles - Oct. 29, 2012 – Patients unable to go to the polls to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 presidential election can vote on absentee basis under a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center volunteer program. More than 25 volunteers will visit hundreds of patient rooms to ensure that any registered voters who are Cedars-Sinai inpatients can exercise their right to vote.

  • WHAT: Volunteers will visit hundreds of patients on Monday, Nov. 5, with necessary applications needed for absentee balloting. Volunteers will then bring the forms to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder and wait for ballots. They will be distributed to patients on Election Day, collected and delivered to the nearest polling place for counting.
  • WHEN: Monday, Nov. 5 – Volunteers, working from a central location, will fan out to visit patients to determine who wants, to vote.

Tuesday, Nov. 6 – Patients will vote. Volunteers will deliver their ballots to be counted.
  • WHO: More than 25 volunteers participate in the project, led by Allison Rotter, Volunteer Services manager at Cedars-Sinai.

“Our volunteers really take pride in being part of our democratic process by helping our patients exercise their right to vote,” Rotter said. “It also means a lot to our patients, who want their voices heard and their votes counted.”
