Cedars-Sinai Named Among Best in 12 Specialties in 2011-12 U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Twelve medical specialties at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center were ranked in the latest U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Hospitals” edition. Cedars-Sinai’s was among the top tier of hospitals that had more than 10 specialties ranked among the top 50 programs in each field nationwide.

Of 4,825 hospitals considered for the rankings nationwide by U.S. News & World Report, only 140 scored high enough to be recognized in even a single specialty. Cedars-Sinai was ranked in: cardiology and heart surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; cancer; orthopaedics; gastroenterology; gynecology; geriatrics; nephrology; diabetes and endocrinology; pulmonology; urology; and ear, nose and throat.

The report graded hospitals in 16 different specialty areas, ranking only the top 50 for each category.

Report rankings are based on reputation, mortality rate, patient safety and other factors as rated by a group of physicians from across the nation. The specialty rankings are calculated using a number of factors, including performance of a certain volume in specified procedures.
