Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Named One of the Country's Top Workplaces for Information Technology Professionals

Los Angeles - July 29, 2010 – Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has been selected as one of the top work environments for technology specialists in the United States by Computerworld, a leading national publication devoted to information technology. The award recognizes dynamic work environments in which IT professionals support new technologies and contribute to projects that are critical to the business goals of an organization.

Cedars-Sinai was ranked in the top third of the 100 “Best Places to Work in IT” for technology professionals and was among the top 10 for diversity in the IT workplace.

“Because Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is committed to investing in technology that improves patient care and treatment, we recognize the value of our information technology staff,” said Darren Dworkin, senior vice president and chief information officer at Cedars-Sinai.

Cedars-Sinai’s IT team places a strong value on diversity, as the hospital recognizes that different points of view encourage creative approaches and solutions to complex problems.  The hospital’s IT program has also successfully integrated work teams spanning Generation-X, Generation-Y, and baby boomers, all of which adds to the positive work environment.

“Another element that adds to our IT team’s strength is the institution’s significant commitment to training and professional development,” said Dworkin.

Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.  This year, Computerworld surveyed more than 27,000 IT workers for the list and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

The more than 350 information technology experts employed at the medical center provide a wide variety of services that support the technology infrastructure of the hospital as well as create programs that help physicians, nurses and staff provide patient services and care more efficiently.
