Cedars-Sinai Experts to Speak at Mexico’s Premier Heart Meeting

Smidt Heart Institute Leaders to Detail Heart Valve Procedures, Cell Treatments and Other Breakthroughs at CADECI Conference in Guadalajara

Three experts from the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai are scheduled to address the Annual Congress of International Cardiology 2023, February 22 – 25, in Guadalajara.

Eduardo Marbán, MD, PhD, Eugenio Cingolani, MD, and Hasan Jilaihawi, MD, will present breakthroughs in cardiology treatments and procedures to attendees of Mexico’s premier conference for cardiologists.

“We are excited to meet our colleagues in Mexico and present some of our newest research and treatment protocols,” said Marbán, the executive director of the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai, ranked as California’s No. 1 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2022-23” rankings. “Opportunities like this allow us to spread Cedars-Sinai medicine beyond borders and let us learn from our colleagues in Mexico as well.”

The Annual Conference of International Cardiology attracts thousands of Latin America’s top cardiologists every year.

All three Cedars-Sinai experts will speak on Friday, Feb. 24:

  • Marbán, the Mark Siegel Family Foundation Distinguished Professor and an authority on treating heart disease patients with cell therapy, is scheduled to speak at 2:30 p.m. about biological approaches to treating cardiac arrhythmias. Marbán, who is fluent in Spanish, is available for media interviews.
  • Cingolani, director of the Cardiogenetics Program and director of Preclinical Research for the Smidt Heart Institute, will speak at 3:30 p.m. about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, at 6 p.m. about biological pacemakers. Cingolani is fluent in Spanish and available for media interviews as well.
  • Hasan Jilaihawi, MD, an interventional cardiologist with special interest and training in innovative heart imaging methods as well as complex, minimally invasive heart procedures, is giving two presentations about transcatheter aortic valve replacements at 2:30 p.m. and 3:10 p.m.

“Having Cedar-Sinai´s experts in Mexico represents an important opportunity of global collaboration, sharing research and experience on new approaches to treatments,” said Jorge Goldberg, MD, a Cedars-Sinai International senior consultant for Mexico and Latin America. “The Annual Conference of International Cardiology provides the perfect opportunity for us to learn from each other and improve heart health beyond borders.”
