Grant Writing Program
Academic Affairs hosts a Mentored Grant Writing Program that provides structured support to new and junior faculty seeking their first NIH research grant. The program strengthens biomedical research and supports Cedars-Sinai's pursuit of national leadership in quality patient care while also advancing Cedars-Sinai as an elite academic medical center.
Competitive grants require not just a description of the research, but also a compelling explanation of the impact the research will have on the field, how the research is innovative, and how it aligns with the sponsor's objective.
The goal of this program is to increase grant success rates by pairing grant applicants with writing mentors who can systematically work through each element of the application and provide critical feedback. Peer feedback from other program participants is provided at each session and participants also benefit from cross-disciplinary relationship building and peer support that may result in future collaborations.
- Over a 5-month period, this program supports faculty in preparing a NIH Research Project Grant application that is ready to submit for the June 5 grant cycle
- To foster a small group learning environment, the program cohort is limited to 10 participants and each participant is paired with a peer partner
- Writing mentors are assigned to each participant
- After each session, participants are required to draft the assigned section(s) of their own grant application, which is reviewed by both their peer partner and mentor in the next class
