Telemundo 52 la Feria de la Salud

For the last 8 years, Cedars-Sinai station Telemundo 52 KVEA in Los Angeles provides free health services to many people in the Los Angeles Hispanic community at this large annual event.

Over 25,000 people attended the most recent health and wellness fair held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The participants benefitted from free health screenings, health education seminars and one-on-one meetings, exercise classes, cooking classes, and a chance to meet the on-air talent from Telemundo 52. Cedars-Sinai provided 500 staff and volunteers, which included 4 nurse leaders (executive directors), 8 nurse managers (associate directors), 13 nurse educators, 24 advanced practice nurses, and 167 clinical nurses.

Services for Adult Health

About 7,000 educational and clinical screenings were performed for adults attending La Feria de la Salud, including blood pressure, blood glucose, and total cholesterol, as well as body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference. One-third of those adults were referred for additional health counseling.

Nursing Volunteers

Nurses and nurse leaders support the Cedars-Sinai mission of community outreach by volunteering a minimum of 8 hours a year at community events. The Telemundo health fair is a favorite event for nurse leaders, managers, educators and advance practice nurses because it's held on a Saturday every year.

La Feria de la Salud demands a lot of coordination from nursing leadership before, during and after the event. Here are some of the key people who make it happen.
